Short descriptionSelect Project

Finny teaches the basics of financial literacy. It is intended for students who are preparing to enter the job market.

Define the problem

Financial literacy is a crucial skill for every student preparing to enter the job market. It covers fundamental concepts related to money, income, saving, and smart spending—topics that are not fully or explicitly addressed in any core subject in Croatian primary or secondary schools. Only elective courses and some extracurricular programs explore these areas in depth. With Finny, our goal was to make these topics more accessible to younger students and to encourage them to think ahead to a future where they will earn and spend their money wisely.

Which groups of people are affected by this problem?

This issue primarily affects primary and secondary school students.

Who is responsible for this problem?

This issue mostly concerns curriculum developers, who haven't included these topics clearly and consistently in the mandatory school subjects.

How big is the problem?

The problem isn't very big, but Finny can teach anyone in a more fun and faster way than a traditional subject or course.

What is blocking the current solution of the problem?

There is already a lot of content in school programs, and it’s not our intention to add more. We simply believe that the existing content should be more practical and applicable — including when it comes to financial literacy.

Why did you choose this problem, and why is it important to solve it?

That’s because most students start earning money already during their schooling or studies, and it’s important that they know how to handle situations with employers, banks, and, ultimately, how to manage their own spending.

How does the chatbot solve this problem?

The chatbot Finny teaches students about money—earning, bank cards, credit, smart spending, and saving—through fun and engaging conversations. Without the pressure of formal lessons, it provides an easy introduction to basic financial literacy concepts and offers many links for those who want to learn more.
